Eekels supplies temporary pump system during refurbishment of the sewage pumping station in the centre of Utrecht

At the request of a supplier of complete pump installations in Zaltbommel, Eekels Pompen will set up and operate an extensive temporary pump system (TPS set-up) in the busy city centre of Utrecht. The TPS will handle wastewater drainage for several weeks to allow complete refurbishment of the sewage pumping station, which is managed by the municipality of Utrecht.

Configuration

The TPS is equipped with three powerful wastewater pumps with a double vacuum system. This configuration delivers the required capacity of 2,150 m3/h and a substantial suction lift of 5 metres. The pumps are controlled from a control container. The total length of the drainage pipes (Ø 500 mm) equals more than 50 metres. To keep traffic moving unhindered, the system design includes a pipe bridge with a clearance of more than 4 metres to allow free passage of the freight traffic.

Logistics tour de force

Obviously, delivering and installing pumps and pipelines at a restricted work site in the heart of Utrecht requires a great deal of preparation. Local parking spaces and streets had to remain easily accessible at all times. Thanks to well-organized logistics planning, this was a success.

Power was supplied by a electric generator, with an emergency generator as a back-up. Due to the limited space in the busy Utrecht city centre, the electric generator was set up some 50 metres away from the pump system itself. Obviously, a long power cable had to be laid to the TPS.

The TPS is maintained and topped up with fuel by Eekels, and is also connected to our 24/7 troubleshooting team.
